Lo1 - Different types of radio stations

National Commercial: Heart Radio

Heart radio has a broad target audience, with it wanting to target most members if the public, because of this the target audience for heart radio has an age range of 25-44 with that being an equal split of male and females with a slightly higher proportion of the audience being in the A, B, C1 audience. This is due to the fact that the two main programs (Heart breakfast and heart evenings) both play popular charts pop music such as Sabrina carpenter and Dua Lipa, it also has as well as mixing in soft news such as celebrity gossip so that it can reach that wide audience.

Public: BBC Radio 1

BBC radio 1 has a younger target audience, wanting to target most members of Gen-Z and young adults, because of this the target audience for heart radio has an age range of 15-29 with that being an equal split of male and females with a higher proportion of the audience being in the C2, D, E audience sure to the younger ages. The two Biggest Programs (Radio 1 Breakfast and The official chart) feature a mix of news, top hits of the time of playing, which targets the audience they will be teens and young adults who will want to listen to the newest popular song. the radio station is also quite interactive with the audience having segments where audiences can call in to answer quizzes that engage the younger audience as they commute to school or work. 

Regional: Hits Radio South Yorkshire

Hits radio South Yorkshire has a broad target audience, with it wanting to target most members if the public, because of this the target audience for Hits radio South Yorkshire has an age range of 25-44 with that being an equal split of male and females with a slightly higher proportion of the audience being in the A, B, C1 audience. This is due to the fact that the two main programs (Hits Radio Breakfast Show and The Big Drive Home) playing contemporary music artists such as Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande and Nial Horan. This can also be seen with the type of adds that are played during the programs being for local business with an example being south cliff holiday park targeting families with parents aged 30 in the Yorkshire area

Community: Sheffield Live

Sheffield Live has a very broad target audience, with it wanting to target everyone that lives in sheffield, having diversity within its main ethos of the station. because of this the target audience for heart radio has an age range of 16-65 typically with that being an equal split of male and females with the audience being in all the A,B,C1, C2, D, E audience categories. This is due to two reasons, the first reason being taht it is featured on freeview, allowing anyone to watch the show as well as the fact that the two main programs ( Communities Live and Sheffield Uprise) focusing on local news as well putting the communities voices on the air, making the station hyper-localised creating a sense of community though the station, it also airs diverse music catering to all cultures in Sheffield.

Internet: Capital FM

Capital FM radio has a very broad target audience, with it wanting to target most young adults I the uk, having diversity within its main ethos of the station. because of this the target audience for heart radio has an age range of 16-35 typically with that being an equal split of male and females with the audience being in all the B,C1, C2, D, E audience categories. This is due to the fact that capital Fm is available on all platforms of media allowing it to be easily accessible, they also have a range of hosts to target both Gen-z and millennial's such as sonny jay and Kemi Rodgers who are both right in-between the Gen-z and millennial target audience ages.

Non-Profit: Mondo Radio

Mondo radio has a broad target audience, with it wanting to target most of the people in Sheffield and the surrounding region, because of this the target audience for mondo radio has an age range of 18+ with that being an equal split of males and females with a slightly higher proportion of the audience being in the C2, D, E audience. This is due to the fact that the programs are online meaning that it is easily available to anyone with a smart device which is more common and even cheaper than having a specific radio to listen to, it also due to the fact that they host local DJ'S which is a heavy part of youth culture in the uk.
